    Isle St. Royal in Lake Superior contains one of the richest deposits of pure copper in the world. In ancient times more than 500,000 tons were mined. Phillip Coppens wrote in, “Copper A World Trade in 3000 B.C.” “The Minong Belt on Isle Royale has a distance of one and three quarter miles in length and is nearly four hundred feet wide.
