Mound Builders, Middle Bronze Age, Cast, Copper Ax from New York State

Mound Builders, Middle Bronze Age, Cast, Copper Ax from New York State

Middle Bronze Age cast copper axes from New York are evidence of Mediterranean migrations to North America

ABORIGINAL MONUMENTS OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK 1849
One of the most interesting relics which has yet been discovered in the State is an ax of cast copper, of which Fig. 20 is a reduced engraving. The original is four inches long by two and a half broad on the edge and corresponds in shape with some of those of wrought native copper, which have been found in the mounds of Ohio. From the granulations of the surface, it appears to have been cast in sand.  The Menominee Indians claim that the copper was mined by a "light skinned people."  www.nephilimgiants.net : Wisconsin Menomonie Indian's Legend of "Light Skinned Men" Who Worked the Copper Mines
