Adena Burial Mound Photographed in Grant County, Indiana Near Upland
This dome-shaped mound appears to have been plowed for many years but is still about four feet high. It is located about five miles southeast of the Upland mounds on a creek that feeds into the Mississenewa River. It is situated on a narrow table of land on the sharp bend of a creek just beyond the tree line to the right. Another small creek, now tiled, cut across this point of land, just beyond the mound. Past the mound, the old tributary embankment can be seen to the right. This place was chosen as a burial place because it would have been surrounded by running water. The burial mound that contained a giant skeleton in Grant County was still visible a few years ago but it was being reduced for topsoil on my last visit.
