Ohio's Lost, Hopewell Serpent Mound

The serpentine mound is situated on a bluff overlooking the confluence of three springs; much like the famous Serpent mound in Adams County, Ohio. This is one of many sites in Ohio that is hidden from the public. The size of the Serpent Mound photographed is similar in size to another serpentine mound that was part of the Junction works in Ross County, Ohio. Here, and at the Junction Works, the Serpent acts as a consort or protector of the dead.

This burial mound is located within a few feet of the Serpent Mound.  It was excavated and hundreds of skeletons removed. The burial and Serpent mound cab be seen in the winter months.
