 New Burial Mound Discovered at the New Castle, Indiana Ancient Sun Temple Site Evades Destruction from Ball State Archaeologists



A small burial mound escaped detection and destruction by Ball State University archaeologists at the New Castle, Indiana Henge site. The burial mound is located to the right of mound #1 on the far left.  The small burial mound that was the likely site of a charnel house was not mapped by Eli Lilly or Ball State archaeologists who have destroyed much of this ancient mound and earthwork complex.


View of henge #2 looking towards mound #1.  The burial mound discovered is behind and to the right of mound #1. City officials have moved to stop Ball State University from any further destruction of this ancient site, so it is hope that this reveal will not result in its excavation.
