University of California Archaeologists Claim a Race of Giants Were the First Occupants of Southern California

The same type of round headed giants with "highbrows," are common in the Ohio Valley burial . LOS ANGELES HOME OF EARLY GIANTS

   They Were Seven Feet in Height According to discoveries just Made. The original residents of Southern California were giants, seven feet in height, according to an anthropological discovery of the University of California near McFarland, in the heart of the oil fields. They were also "highbrows" with large, well rounded heads. They lived in mounds and used implements of stone. The excavations are being made under the direction of Arling Steinberger, in a now dry lake where the soil is heavily impregnated with alkaline salts and a seepage of petroleum. This chemical combination acted as an ideal preservative, so that the skeletons were found in a fine state of preservation. The first mound uncovered evidence was a burying ground, as the skeletons were found lying or sitting facing the east, as was customary in the last rites of primitive peoples. The skeletons are believed to be those of the first dwellers in Southern California.

Although not regarded by the government as reliable, the oral traditions of the native people in the Eastern U.S. describe the existence of possibly two races of giants, one supplanting the other by violent means. Here we have the first inkling of some very remote prehistory preserved, through the tradition of the Chippewa, Sandusky, and Tawa tribes, (members of the Algonquin language group), the existence of giant, bearded men.

 In this connection, I would say that Mr. Jonathan Brooks, now living in town, stated to me, that his
father, Benjamin Brooks, who lived with the Indians fourteen years, and was well-acquainted with their
language and traditions told him and others that it was a tradition of the Indians that the first tribe
occupying this whole country, was a black-bearded race, very large in size, and subsequently a red
bearded race or tribe came and killed or drove off all the black beards, as they called them.

The above map shows the location of the henge in Perry Township. This site was investigated, but there is no trace of the henge that is currently being plowed.  The sandy nature of the soil at this location would have lent itself to quickly obliterating all traces of the earthworks in a few years of cultivation.

   In section 2 Perry Township was an enclosure, now obliterated, this was situated upon the summit of a natural hill and commanded a good view of the surrounding country; the enclosure was 130 feet in diameter, circular, with a ditch inside which, when discovered was about ten inches deep. In the center was a small mound from which a passageway led in a south-westerly direction through the enclosure, numerous implements were picked up here when first discovered. The Indians used many of the hills as burial places; bones have been discovered which from their size would indicate that they belonged to a race of giants.

The War Against the mound builder

     

    The history of this West is a long history of war, from the earliest days even to our own century. This territory between the Alleghenies and the Mississippi is one of the greatest battlefields in the world. It is certainly the oldest and most renowned in our America. The first of our race to enter it looked ‘with wondering eyes upon the monstrous earthen forts of a prehistoric race whom we have named from the relics they left behind the Mound Builders.” Of this race the Indians knew nothing, save what the legends handed down by their fathers told of a race of giants which was driven out of the Central West, and sent flying down the Ohio and Mississippi to reappear no more in human history. Antiquarians find that these forts and mausoleums reveal little in addition to the bloody story told by crude implements of war, of Old. unhappy, far off things And battles long ago. In certain instances, great piles of human bones are found at strategic revetment angles where the heaviest attack was made and the stoutest resistance encountered. Here bones are some times found pierced by death-dealing arrowheads. What power hurled the flints of these warriors of prehistoric days? The Indian legend, that they were giants in strength, is easily believed. Nowhere else on the continent are found such forts as were ‘built by these ancient defenders of the Central West.

    The race of giants called Anakim, so named from their stature or their strength, were the descendants of Arba, and dwelt at Hebron, according to Joshua xv. 13, and xxi. 11; and they were variously described as the sons of Anak, the descendants of Anak, and the sons of Anakim. The name of Anak is considered to be that of a race and not that of an individual. They were divided into three tribes, bearing the names of Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai respectively. Their stature appears to have much alarmed the spies sent by Moses into Canaan; who upon their return related that all the people whom they saw in the land were " men of a great stature. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight." (Numbers xiii. 32, 33.) The names of those giants became proverbial with the Israelites, as we learn from Deuteronomy ix. 2: "A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, who can stand before the children of Anak?" They were, however, utterly dispersed by Joshua; and only a small remnant found refuge in Gaza, Grath, and Ashdod. Their chief city became the possession of Caleb, and after this time they appear to have died out of Biblical narrative.

The New Race of Giants Documented in the Bible

    However, the Biblical Deluge purged the world of these fallen angels and their monstrous children, and they afterward existed only in the imaginative narrative. The stories of the commingling of these heaven-born rebels with the women of the earth have a close affinity to the Greek legends about the mythological deities having offspring by mortal women ; and also to the Indian notions of the solar and lunar races of men, Suras and Asuras, who, according to Hindu traditions, sprang from the gods. The next race of giants mentioned in the Bible, and being, moreover, the first postdiluvian monsters, are the Rephaim, of whom the earliest record is made in Genesis xiv. 5, where we are told that Chedorlaomer and some allied kings defeated them at Ashteroth Karnaim. Afterward, they were, with other tribes, given to Abraham (Genesis xv. 20). In Deuteronomy ii. 10, 11, we are told, in reference to the wilderness of Moab, that " the Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites called them Emims." And in verses 20 and 21 it is said that the land of Ammon " also was accounted a land of giants : giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims; a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the Lord destroyed them before them ; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead."

There are many legends of an ancient giant race from many tribes across North America. Prehistoric Races of America and Other Lands by L.S. Curry

    Dr. Curry was a missionary in the early days in the wilds of Michigan, is one of these missionaries who went among the Indians at Sault Ste. Marie, among the Chippewas at L'Anse and other places in the Northern Peninsula. He devoted years of time and study to the Indian, and finally learned to comprehend the Red Man, his ways, his, "inner life", and the meaning of his traditions, oral history, and religion, as no man ever before him had succeeded in doing. He, early in his career, came to the conclusion that the religion and so-called traditions meant something other than the wierd, and fancy flight of imagination, but how to obtain the key to the problem involved was itself a problem which for many years defied his most earnest efforts, but at length he was adopted into one of the tribes to which he was a missionary, and because of this, and in accordance with their unwritten law, he must, of necessity be taught the lore of the tribe together with its meaning as it was interpreted by them. Thus, at last, was opened to Dr. Curry the door he had so long striven to unlock, and as he spoke fluently several of the Indian dialects he encountered no difficulty in understanding their, "inner meaning".

   After years spent in attempting to reconcile the apparent contradictions in cosmogony,chronology, ethnology, ect., Dr. Curry, while stationed at Newberry Michigan, opened for himself a way for the solution of many of the problems that up to that time had defied every scientist, and at the same time smoothed out all the apparent inconsistencies; but we shall, at this point allow Dr. Curry to speak for himself:

    "An elder brother was the first to give me any light upon the subject. Upon what authority, he spoke, I know not, but this I do know, he must have had some good foundation for his statements. He said in substance as follows: A very long time ago a large race of people lived there as farmers and lumbermen, and a small race who had whiskers came down the Ottawa river from the northwest and made war on the large race and killed the most of them, but when the small men came in contact with the Indians they found the latter more than a match, for, the Indians turned on them and nearly annihilated them, and the remnants of both the giants and the small men left the country.

   The Choctaws preserve a dim tradition that, after crossing the Mississippi, they met a race of men whom they called the Na-hon-lo, tall in stature and of fair complexion, who had emigrated from the sunrise. They had once been a mighty people but were then few in number, and soon disappeared after the incoming of the Choctaws. This race of men were, according to tradition, tillers of the soil and peaceable. There had likewise been a race of cannibals, who feasted on the bodies of their enemies. They too were giants and utilized the mammoth as their burden bearers. They kept them closely herded, and as they devoured everything and broke down the forest, this was the origin of prairies.
