At sunrise on May 1, Beltane, the sun will align east with the gateway at the Newark, Ohio henge. It will align to the west on October 31, Samhain.

    The number 3 was an important number to the Ohio Amorites and was expressed geometrically as an isosceles triangle. This knowledge was brought to Ohio from Babylonian during the Amorite occupation. They had formulated the mathematical rules of generating Pythagorean triangles and understood the relationship between the sides of a right triangle,  1² + 1² = ()².]

On the grounds of the Fairmount Presbyterian Church, it is one of the few maintained mounds in Ohio because the Ohio Historical Society is not responsible for it. Wilson Effigy Mound Located South of Newark, Ohio "Address Restricted"

Several years ago I visited Glenford Fort and several mounds in Perry County with Richard Moats and Wayne May.  Richard Moats is the expert on the mounds in the area with extensive work on the Yost Works nearby. According to Richard, the Wilson mound was a Bear effigy mound. History of Perry County, Ohio 1902
     The Wilson Mound, mentioned above, is one of the best in the county. It belongs to the "Platform" class of mounds. It has never been thoroughly explored. Several shafts were sunk into it and it was found that the mound was at least half stone. Many of the stones showed signs of fire. A considerable amount of ashes and red clay was found, through which were mingled scraps of bone and pieces of mica.

Excavation of the Wilson Mound revealed a stone mound in the lower level that was used for cremations.

A walk through the grounds of the ancient henge reveals an impressive coverage of wild strawberries that may have been planted by those who constructed the earthwork. Wild strawberries are invasive and will eliminate most other plant growth.  They average about 3 inches in height and so would have been a good cover without occluding the general lines of the work.

In the spring during the May 1 solar alignment the embankments would have been covered in white flowers.

During the summer months, the embankment would have been covered in green with the strawberries visible.

In the fall at the time of the October 31 solar alignment the earthwork would turn a rusty red color before being covered with the winter snows.

Five Nephilim Giant's Skeletons Unearthed in Licking County, Ohio
   One of the most important discoveries of the many made in the prolific field of  Indian mound near Homer, Ohio was made near there a few days ago.  Beneath a small mound and five feet below the normal surface five gigantic skeletons, with their feet to the east were found in a grave with a stone floor.  Amounts of burned bones and wood charcoal are plentiful, together with numerous stone vessels and weapons.  The skeletons are of enormous size, the head of one being the size of a wooden bucket.  The most striking articles beside the skeletons were a finely finished stone pipe, the bowl being large and polished and engraved with considerable care in a simple way- the figures are birds and beasts: a knife shaped like a sickle reversed and having a wooden handle held by leather thongs and a kettle holding perhaps six quarts.  Those who know say this find is one of the oldest in America and perhaps the most valuable.  For more giant Nephilim giants found across Ohio see 

 

The Many Large Burial Mounds Around Newark, Ohio

     .At Newark there have At Newark there havea been extensive system of drainage, evidently of the period of the Mound Indians, and indicating larger population and higher civilisation than antiquaries have hitherto supposed.

 Advanced Mathematics and the Ancient Earthworks in the Ohio Valley

Diagram of the Newark Earthworks done by the Midwestern Epigraphic Society shows the square of the Octagon at 1050 feet.  The diameter of the circle is 1050 feet.  Knowledge of pi and the square root of a number must have been known in order to do the equation of squaring a circle to construct this earthwork. Are we do believe that Native Americans forgot this knowledge, or believe a more plausible conclusion that someone else came here and built it? Note 

The evidence of a religious cult based on numbers is theorized on the occurrence of certain lengths or numbers within the Adena and Hopewell earthworks. These various lengths appear with such regularity to conclude that the earthworks were methodically measured using both simple and complex mathematics in conjunction with a numerical canon that specified the lengths and diameters of various circles and square earthworks, prior to their construction. 

The number of degrees from the true north through the main axis of the Newark earthwork is 51.8 degrees. This is identical to the angle of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Coincidence?

 Certain numbers must have exposed hidden words, phrases or images. In other words, the numbers in of themselves held sacred meanings and attributes that were encompassed within the construction of an earthwork. 

North of the Newark Earthworks is the "Alligator Mound" its identity is likely related to some kind of reptile.  The orientation of the effigy is aligned to the May 1st sunrise, as is the Great Circle at Newark. The length of the work is 210 feet. This was a very important number to the Ohio mound builders. Its length was used in the construction of Earthen Sun Temples. 210 X 5 = 1050.

The earthworks were then, not only held sacred within their shape and function, but also the numbers derived from the measurements from which they were constructed.

Geometrically, the shapes of the earthworks are diverse, but most are squares, circles or a combination of both. William Romain, the author of Mysteries of the Hopewell, Astronomers, Geometers, and Magicians of the Eastern Woodlands, 2000, examined the mathematical relationships between the circles and square and octagons and shows the complex arithmetic that was utilized in the construction of the Adena Hopewell's earthworks. Romain explains the spatial relationships of these earthworks in mathematical formulas and shows that the Adena and Hopewell knew how to “square a circle,” meaning the square and circle had equal perimeters. Also, they understood nested squares, where the diagonal of a square earthwork conjoined with a circular earthwork had a corresponding diameter. The Hopewellian earthen octagons are also explained geometrically as formulated from truncated squares and the mathematics involved in the making of these imposing earthworks.   

 Visiting Newark Ohio earthworks can be enhanced by traveling a few miles south to visit some of the largest burial mounds in Ohio.

A large burial mound is located near Jacksontown, Ohio a few miles south of the Newark Earthworks.  From this mound you would have been able to see the large 50 foot stone mound that was located off I-70.  The destruction of this stone mound by the city of Columbus is one of the greatest tragedies in American history.

To the south of Jacksontown and Newark, Ohio is this giant-sized effigy mound that is supposed to be a bear, according to a local historian who took us to the site.  The mound, like most in Ohio has been heavily damaged by the Ohio Historical Society.

From the last mound, and Glenford Fort this large mound can be seen in the horizon, capping this large hill.  It has a sub conical shape that is due to the destruction done by the Ohio Historical Society.  The mounds along with the Glenford Fort all within a half hour of the Newark earthworks and will give the traveler a true sense in the concentration of the large mounds and earthworks that were once in this part of the state of Ohio.
